Choosing a Fansite Topic
Choosing a topic to start a fansite on can be a daunting task.
First, ask yourself: “Who am I most likely to continually like for the next couple years? Do I have enough interest in this celebrity figure to work day after day on a fansite for them?” These questions can often address and/or start giving you ideas on who you would like to start a fansite on.
From what I have learned over the past 5 years in the fansite hosting business is that fansites for up-and-coming celebrities tend to being to pick up visitors quickly once the celebrity makes their big brake. For example in June 2008 Katy Perry suddenly hit the charts with her #1 single “I Kissed A Girl” and people went crazy for her! Katy-Perry.Net quickly opened after her single was released and is now the #1 fansite for Katy Perry. If you search Google for the term “Katy Perry” they show up on the very first page. Another example is Taylor Lautner. He had never been extremely popular until the “Twilight” movie was about to come out. TaylorLautner.Org opened and quickly became on of the leading Taylor Lautner fansites on the Internet, you can also search google for him to find them on the first page.
Do research on the celebrity you are looking to open a fansite on. Is there already 40 other strong sites dedicated to this topic? What can you bring to the table to make your site better than your competitors? Why would visitors choose to look at your fansite over your competitors fansite?
Comment any thoughts you have about choosing a fansite topic below. I will be here to reply to any questions you may have or comments you would like to give me.
